Buganda has launched the 2021 Kabaka Birthday Run at Bulange, Mengo. The run will be held under the theme “Men against HIV/AIDS to save the girl child” with the aim of encouraging men to take the lead in the fight against HIV/ AIDS by getting tested, treated, and ultimately protecting girls and women against infection.
“This afternoon, we join Buganda Official at Bulange, Mengo for the launch of the 2021 Kabaka Birthday Run,” DFCU said in a statement.
DFCU says that their participation in the initiative is part of the company’s social corporate responsibility and its commitment towards maternal health and reduction in HIV prevalence rate in Uganda.
“The theme of this year reflects joint-efforts by various partners working together with Buganda Kingdom including dfcu which has reiterated its commitment in supporting the Kingdom in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
“This initiative is directly connected to dfcu’s Corporate Social Investment intervention area of maternal & child health in the context of HIV/AIDS.” Added dfcu bank.
Mr. Mathias Katamba who is the CEO dfcu Bank challenged men to spearhead the fight against HIV/AIDS.
“We are calling on men to champion the fight against prevalence of HIV/ AIDS amongst girls and women.” Mr. Katamba said. “Men are in a unique position that allows them to enforce core interventions such as abstinence; faithfulness; HIV counselling and testing.”
The Katikkiro of Buganda Charles Peter Mayiga remarked that the birthday anniversary of the Kabaka, Ssaabasajja Ronald Muwenda Mutebi goes beyond celebrating the anniversary of the Kabaka but forms a basis for a number of initiatives to support Buganda.
Airtel remains the lead sponsor of the event and besides dfcu Bank, other corporate partners in the Kabaka Run event include BBS Terefayina and CBS FM both media brands under Buganda Kingdom, Azam TV and UNAIDS.
